Centra Windows is British Columbia’s top window manufacturer, building envelope, energy retrofit, and restoration specialist. Established in 1984, Centra has steadily outpaced the competition in a challenging market.
“Customer satisfaction is our top priority,” says marketing manager Andrea Chomiczuk. “Our employees are also our owners. Whether it’s a commercial or residential project, we treat each one as if we were working on our own building. We keep it all in-house, so we have quality control over the products, delivery, and installation. We hold ourselves accountable to our customers.”
Chomiczuk first approached Smartt when she needed help with some technical issues that were hurting Centra’s SEO results. The marketing team lacked the resources to help troubleshoot and resolve these problems.
Smartt’s website audit identified a number of issues which had a negative impact on SEO. Over the years, various problems had accumulated on the Centra website, the most serious being a domain issue that caused Google to index the website incorrectly. Another problem was that Centra Windows’ website included a directory which showcased its partners, but slow load times affected the directory’s usability.
The Smartt team tracked down and fixed the indexing issue. This involved making changes to the hosting environment and then a few weeks of constant monitoring to make sure the website, which contained more than 500 pages, was being re-indexed correctly, as quickly as possible.
The Smartt team also discussed with Centra the option of implementing the partner directory as a standalone microsite. A separate site for partners would avoid any possibility of directory issues impacting the main website. With a friendlier interface and easy content management, Centra could promote its home services partners more effectively. Furthermore, links and call to actions from the microsite would help drive lead generation back to the main Centra Windows site.
The steps for resolving Centra’s indexing proved both exacting and time-consuming. Once these were complete however, Centra saw traffic and search rankings jump back to normal within weeks. Smartt also modified some elements of the Home page to drive traffic to key sub-pages and made changes to increase page speed -- just a benefit for SEO as well as usability.
Centra removed the partner directory page from the company’s main website and launched a new standalone Home Services Directory. The microsite now provides a simple search function by keyword, location, or supplier category. Search results are integrated with mapping, which makes it easy for customers to locate the nearest home services professional. From a business perspective, the directory highlights the network of trusted relationships Centra Windows has built over the course of 30 years of business.
After working with Smartt’s technical team, Centra made the decision to continue the relationship by signing up for monthly web services. Smartt now hosts the Centra Windows websites and provides support and maintenance.

Smartt has made a huge effort to understand us and what our brand means, so when they make a recommendation, we know where it’s coming from and that it’s the best option for our business. We really do see the Smartt team as an extension of our own.
