SmarttNet releases free e-book on Internet Marketing

Guide gives tips to transform online businesses in 6 weeks.

A new e-book on Internet marketing has been released by the recently formed e-marketing department at SmarttNet. The book covers everything from search engine optimization (SEO) to video marketing, with advice on how to structure a Web site, writing effective ads, finding an online market and much more.

The book is called ???The 6 week online business makeover: SEO & e-marketing for small businesses,??? and is being offered for free on their Web site at www.smartt.com/freeguide.

???There are a lot of common mistakes that people make when they try to market their business on the Internet,??? says Amy Cope, an e-marketer at SmarttNet and one of the co-authors of the book. ???We wanted to show people what works and what doesn???t.???

To quote an example from the book, ???customers [on the Internet] don???t want to be sold right away. Rather, they want to browse around, read some interesting and useful information and then buy a product that solves their problem.???

Though there are differences between real-life marketing and e-marketing, Joyce Astifan, another e-marketer and co-author of the book, notes that there are also parallels that need to be discovered.

???On the Internet you have advertisements, but they are mostly text-based ??? that???s how you grab attention there. In real life you would use lots of graphics,??? explains Astifan, giving just one example. ???Our book teaches businesses how to write those text-based ads effectively.???

The SmarttTeam uses the six chapters of their book to form a six-week guide that helps business owners learn the ins and outs of e-marketing. However, they mention that the e-book alone, though comprehensive, is not enough.

???The problem is that e-marketing rules are always changing, and that???s why it???s important to have an e-marketer taking care of things, so you???re not making mistakes down the road,??? explains Cope.

The SmarttTeam is offering the book for free in electronic format on their Web site at www.smartt.com/freeguide. The book is featured in an advertisement run in the How-to Book 2009, published by Business in Vancouver, along with an article adjacent to it on ???How to avoid Internet marketing mistakes.???
