Introduction to Anti-Spam & Anti-Virus

How it works

There are a number of different features you can take advantage of with enhanced spam control from SmarttMail:

Blocks

With blocks, you can specify the level of protection you want.   Each email that gets sent to you is automatically scored for how likely it is to be spam.  A score of 7 or higher is usually spam and so this is the default level for SmarttMail.  Your unwanted messages get labeled as spam and the ones you want come through.  With SmarttMail, this level is adjustable.  If you need more or less protection, you can simply change your level of security whenever you want.

Quarantines

Quarantines allow you to check certain emails before they are labeled as spam.  Each email that meets the criteria that you set will get quarantined in a separate area where you can check it at your convenience.  Once an email is quarantined, you get to tell the system if it’s spam or not.  This way, the system learns what is and is not spam so in the future it can block more spam and let the emails you want through.

Tags

Tags are one more level of security.  With tags, a potential spam will be tagged.  When you check your Inbox, you will see the tag right in the subject line.  From there, you can decide if the item is spam or not.  Label it as spam just from the subject line, or have a look inside before you decide if it’s legit or not.

White and Black Lists

With this feature, you can create lists of e-mail addresses. Mail from these addresses will either always be automatically deleted or will always go through to your inbox, regardless of what the spam score or other settings you have.  You are in full control of your inbox- you decide what is spam and what is not.

Spoof Protection

Spammers are tricky.  They will do anything they can to get to your inbox.  Banking on the fact that you generally assume mail sent from within your company is not spam, spammers will pretend to send you an email from your company’s own domain.  But Enhanced Mail is Smartt.  It detects the false domain name and labels it as spam- one more great way to protect you.

Other Features

These settings can be applied server-wide so security levels, along with spam and virus protection can be the same throughout the company.  Additionally, you can set it so that each user controls their own security levels.  With SmarttMail, you’re in total control.
